Alpha
Phis are members of a lifelong sisterhood, formed from true and
loving friendships. Beginning with our ten founders at Syracuse
University in 1872, Alpha Phi has grown to become an international
organization with over 140 chapters. The traditions, sisterhood,
and love our founders felt all those years ago, continues to ring
true in the hearts of thousands of women today. Our values
rest on promoting sisterhood, scholarship, service, loyalty, character
development and leadership, all of which encourage our members to
reach their true potential.
The
women of Alpha Phi feel very strongly about giving back to our community.
Our chapter hosts two amazing philanthropy events each year: “Red
Dress Gala” and our brand new event, “Heart and Sole 5K Run/Walk.”
Money raised at these events is donated to the Alpha Phi Foundation,
which helps fund research and educational programs in support women's
cardiac health. In addition to our own events, each year Alpha
Phis participates in a number of campus and Madison area community
service opportunities. By participating in Relay for Life,
Dance Marathon, Humorology, Habitat for Humanity and philanthropy
events sponsored by others in the UW-Madison Greek community, Alpha
Phis show their passion for service.
We
recognize that academics are the number one reason our members are
at the University of Wisconsin ; this is why we provide many
programs to encourage members to do their best in class. We encourage
our members to take advantage of weekly study tables, attend our
Sunday night study session at College Library and attend Greek-wide
events for better scholarship. Similarly, we support our members
to become leaders. Women within the chapter have the opportunity
to run for a position whether it be elected or appointed.
Our members also hold leadership roles outside of Alpha Phi, including
within the Panhellenic board and other student organizations.
While
we work hard, having fun is just as important! Our members
always look forward to our social events including date parties,
themed parties, and formals. In addition, Alpha Phis enjoy
hanging out with each other at sisterhood events. From bowling,
to yoga workouts, and late night movies, we Phis always have fun
together.
And although
our house is on Langdon Street , our backyard reaches all the way
down to the lake – which means some great bonding time sunbathing
and unwinding!
Here
at Alpha Phi, you will find a group of girls with many different
passions, whether it be volunteering, participating in sports, or
becoming involved with other campus activities. Yet while
we may differ in many ways, the one passion we share is our pride
and love of being an Alpha Phi.
Alpha
Phi follows a strict no-hazing policy, which fosters growth of character
among all its members .
